The erotic power of words

Unlike images, which arrive fully formed and ready to consume, erotic words ask something more of us- they invite us to participate, to lean in. To fill in the gaps with our own breath, our own memories, our own longing.

They stir the imagination, they let us build the scene ourselves—slowly, tenderly, in the exact way that touches us most. That’s why, for some of us, certain words spoken aloud can awaken more than any naked image ever could. Language becomes like touch. And the most powerful touch isn’t always physical.

Take Poetry: How Does It Feel Now??? by Akua Naru, linked at the end of this post. Her voice—low, slow, deliberate—has a weight to it. She doesn’t just speak, she pours her words into the space. And suddenly, even if you’re alone in your living room, the room feels hotter. The song draws you into your body, into memory, into a kind of quiet yearning that lingers.

This is the power of erotic language, of poetry, music, stories. A single line can land in your chest—or your hips—and make you close your eyes just a little longer, breathe a little deeper. Press your thighs together and remember something you didn’t even realise you have forgotten.

Porn might be louder. But this… this is deeper.

There’s something about the slow burn of a sentence that feels like it was written just for you. Something about reading so slowly that the words seem to slip down through your body, settling somewhere low and warm, like honey moving through your bloodstream.

I’ve been searching for an erotic poetry or stories book. Not something seedy or overly explicit, not something overly deep—just something honest, daring, tasteful and mysterious. Something that feels like silk against the skin, words that stir the senses but also speak to that tender, hidden place inside.

I ordered a few, read some beautiful lines, maybe pages, but I haven’t found the right one yet.

So.... I’ve started writing myself.

A mix of memories, imagination, and quiet longing.  I posted one .... Some pieces will stay just for me, but some I will offer here, slowly, when they feel ready to be read. It’s a part of me I’m just beginning to give voice to—a deeper language that’s been quietly waiting.

Maybe this is an invitation for you too.

To explore your own erotic language.

To notice which words make your skin come alive. Which ones make you shift in your seat, smile without meaning to, feel just a little more turned on and a little more alive. Maybe it's poetry or maybe it's a line from a film, a lyric from a song, or something you’ve never dared to say out loud.

Maybe you could write your own.

You don’t have to show anyone, just let the words rise from the body, not the mind and see what happens when you follow that thread.

Let your language be a doorway—not just into fantasy, but into feeling.

Because sometimes, the most erotic thing isn’t what you see.

It’s what you imagine.

And sometimes, a single sentence—placed just right—can feel like a lover’s breath against your neck.

Love,

Rosie x
